Once again this year, Saxun, the Piel Sana Foundation and the educational community of Sax (Alicante) are joining forces to raise awareness amongst young children about the importance of looking after their skin and protecting themselves from the sun from an early age.
As a Silver Member of the Healthy Skin Foundation (FPS), we at Saxun have held the third edition of the ‘Convive con el Sol’ School Days, an initiative that brings education on sun protection to schoolchildren.
Around a hundred pupils from schools in Sax (Alicante), where our head office is based, took part in a day packed with learning, games and discoveries, designed to help them understand their skin better and learn how to protect it from the effects of sun exposure.
The event took place at our premises, where the schoolchildren, accompanied by their teachers, enjoyed an informative talk given by the dermatologist Laura García. They also had the opportunity to see our sun protection products up close and find out how they are made.

Dr Laura García, a specialist affiliated with the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and a member of the Piel Sana Foundation, explained to the schoolchildren how exposure to the sun affects our skin and what healthy habits we can incorporate into our daily lives to protect it.
Through games, questions and relatable examples, the children have learnt about the importance of sun protection for children and how small, everyday actions can help them look after their skin.
An interactive and highly educational talk in which the schoolchildren’s curiosity took centre stage, showing that learning how to protect yourself from the sun can also be fun.

The event also gave the schoolchildren the chance to find out how we work at Saxun to develop sun protection solutions that help to create more comfortable and sheltered spaces.
During the visit, the pupils learnt about various solutions that help to control the sun’s rays and create shaded areas, as well as part of the manufacturing process.
An opportunity to introduce them to the local industry and show them how sun protection forms part of our daily lives, both in terms of personal care and the spaces we inhabit.

With this third edition, the ‘Convive con el Sol’ school programme continues to establish itself as a much-anticipated event for the educational community in Sax.
Teachers particularly value the opportunity to teach pupils about skincare through a different kind of experience, outside the classroom and in direct contact with their surroundings.
This is how Nuria Pardo, headteacher of the Cervantes School, explains it; she highlights the positive response to this activity and its usefulness in conveying “a very clear and direct message to primary school pupils”. At Cristóbal Colón School, teacher Silvia Catalá also emphasises the importance of continuing to promote these healthy habits from an early age, as “both parents and children are becoming increasingly aware of this”.

The visit also gives schoolchildren the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their local industrial landscape. Pilar Cantero, head of studies at the Carmelite Sisters’ School, He highlights the proximity of the Saxun facilities and the company’s ties with many families in the municipality: ‘How lucky we are to have facilities so close to us, where so many families work.’
For her part, Andrea Carretera, a teacher at Alberto Sols School, highlights the pupils’ curiosity and the dynamic nature of the day, which facilitates learning and means that the children leave ‘eager to do it all over again next year’.
At Saxun, we remain committed to initiatives that enable us to share knowledge, strengthen ties with our community and promote healthy habits from an early age. Because learning to live with the sun also means learning to enjoy it responsibly.
