We took part in the third public awareness event organised by the AEDV’s Healthy Skin Foundation, held at the Casa de Vacas in El Retiro Park. The event was open to the public and focused on prevention, healthy habits and the role of shade in skin care.
Last Saturday, 6 June, we enjoyed a very special day at the Casa de Vacas in Madrid’s El Retiro Park. This was the venue for the third public awareness event organised by the Healthy Skin Foundation of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, a gathering designed to bring skin care closer to the public in a clear, useful and accessible way.
Once again this year, this iconic spot in El Retiro brought together hundreds of people for workshops, panel discussions and educational activities. It was also an opportunity to get to know the partner brands that support this awareness-raising work, such as Saxun, who were present as silver members.

Under the slogan ‘All about your skin’, dermatology stepped out of the clinic to discuss prevention, healthy habits, sun protection and everyday skincare. A much-needed conversation, especially when we’re talking about how we interact with the sun when outdoors.
At Saxun, we offer our perspective on physical sun protection, shading and dynamic solar control. These solutions help to regulate sunlight, create shaded areas and make spaces more comfortable, healthier and better suited for enjoying the outdoors.

During the event, we had the opportunity to listen to and talk with professionals such as Dr Raúl de Lucas, a specialist in paediatric dermatology, who reminded us of the importance of protecting ourselves from the sun in a healthy way through physical measures and topical sun protection. He also put forward an idea that is closely linked to our understanding of spaces: “shade is important for enjoying life outdoors”.

The presentation by José Aguilar, who holds a PhD in Photobiology and Medicine, was also particularly interesting; he put into words something we at Saxun have been advocating for years: “the best sun protection is good shade, whether natural or artificial”. Aguilar also explained the work being carried out at the University of Málaga in collaboration with architects to investigate how to incorporate natural and artificial shading structures where they are needed.

Hearing these insights in an informative setting, surrounded by healthcare professionals and people keen to look after their skin better, reinforces an idea that is part of our everyday lives: shading is not just an added extra. It is a necessity when it comes to designing and enjoying spaces.
The event began the previous evening, on Friday 5 June, with the AEDV 2026 Healthy Skin Foundation Awards Gala, held at the Palacete de los Duques de Pastrana. The evening was designed to celebrate and recognise professionals, organisations and partners who contribute to the development, dissemination and promotion of dermatological health.
At Saxun, we were honoured to receive an award as partners and silver members of this initiative. We are particularly grateful for this recognition, as it reinforces our commitment to physical sun protection, shade provision and the creation of healthier outdoor spaces.

For us, taking part in this event means supporting a much-needed conversation: how to enjoy the sun more mindfully, with greater safety precautions and better spaces for outdoor living.
Light and sunshine are an integral part of our lives. We enjoy sitting on a terrace, going for a walk, opening up our homes to the outdoors, or spending time in the fresh air. But we also need spaces designed to protect us, offer respite from the heat, and regulate our exposure to the sun without compromising on our well-being.
That is why we support initiatives such as this conference. Because they help to highlight an increasingly pressing need: to create environments that are healthier, more liveable and better suited to our way of life.
We left Casa de Vacas having had many conversations and with one thing very clear: sun protection starts in the spaces we inhabit too.
